Joint pain and problems

Joint pain is a common problem that can significantly impact the quality of life. Joints are key structures that connect bones and enable movement, which is why injuries or joint diseases can severely limit mobility and cause excruciating pain.

Frequency and causes of joint pain

Joint problems are very common and can be the result of various factors such as injuries, degenerative changes, inflammation, or overexertion. Joint pain appears in various forms, ranging from acute injuries to chronic degenerative conditions.

Most common joint pathologies

Osteoarthritis (degenerative arthritis): The most common form of arthritis, which affects the joints. It occurs due to the wear and tear of joint cartilage, causing pain, stiffness, and swelling. It frequently affects the knee, hip, and shoulder joints.
Rheumatoid arthritis: An autoimmune disease that causes joint inflammation, leading to pain, swelling, and deformities. It most commonly affects smaller joints, such as the wrists and feet, but can also affect larger joints, such as the knees and hips.
Ligament injuries: The knee joint in particular is frequently subject to ligament injuries, such as tears of the cruciate or collateral ligaments. These injuries can cause instability and pain.

Meniscal injuries: The meniscus is a fibrocartilaginous structure in the knee joint. Meniscal injuries cause pain and restricted knee movement.
Impingement syndrome: A condition where tendons or soft tissues in the shoulder or hip become trapped between bones, causing pain and limited mobility.
Dislocations: Joint dislocation, where a bone slips out of its natural position, causes severe pain and inability to move. The most frequent dislocations occur in the shoulder joint.
Gout (uric acid arthritis): Gout is the result of uric acid buildup in the joints, causing severe pain, redness, and swelling, most commonly in the feet or ankles.

A holistic approach includes:

As an osteopath and physiotherapist, in treating joint pain I use a holistic approach based on finding and eliminating the causes of problems rather than merely relieving symptoms. Every joint has its role and function in the body, so it is crucial to address not only the painful joint, but the entire body and its biomechanics.
